Where's a Good Music Editor?

Postby Fat Corgi on Tue Feb 09, 2010 5:08 am

The thing I'm possibly most excited about with this game is the opportunity to create music. That said, I've never really used a music editor. I toyed around with Rhapsody for a few days during a weeklong music camp, but it looks like the style is very different, namely that you're not composing sheet music. That said, what's a good music editor that as the designers say, is similar to the one in APB, free being a preferred descriptor.

I know my way around chord progressions and such, but feel like I'd be much better off if I wasn't going totally cold into creating music on APB. In other words, I want to practice creating music with an editor before the game comes out. Any help?

You could try Finale, although I haven't personally used it much myself, my girlfriend has and she likes it a lot. It's a professional tool, though, so it may/may not be something you can consider.

I think there's a free trial on there at least.

Fruity Loops is the best in my perspective, although its very advanced for a beginner (or if your not a beginner its great!)

Grab a copy of FL Studio (Fruity Loops) if you can. It's going to be the most similar software to the music creator in APB that you will find.

FL does look like a nice editor. The price point is my only real concern though. Still, what I've seen of it from youtube videos makes it look pretty comprehensive. Maybe it's deceptively complicated.

I'm sad though, that given APB's policy in importing graphics, it is also unlikely you'll be able to import sound samples to the game like you can with FL.
